Miami Vice, Cinematography Osmosis
I was sent this the other day by 'Gunrunner' in an email, for no other reason than he liked the way it looked. He got a little bit excited in the man-pants department, took a whole bunch of screenshots from the trailer and mashed them all into one big image. It's a beautiful nerdy thing to do. Through working in DV, Mann has taken it up to a whole new level of beautiful night-time moodiness. I loved the look of Collateral’s LA and this appears like it’s done the same for Miami. When’s this bad boy out over here?
Oh, and I love how nerdily brilliant it was that gunrunner put these shots together.
Everytime a dark trailer comes out i’ll do a SIC imagequilt so we can analyse just how beautiful its gonna look.. miami vice looks awesome.. Mann loves his guys to be walking framed against the city..its awesome how atmospheric he is as a director. He just soaks it up. And its a deep nightime feel he obviously is gonna nail here. u saw it in collateral ( or casserole as my girlfriend thinks its called.. ) he went for these beautiful LA golds and greens and blacks.. and then the lights just cut through everything..so you can see into the night - digital helps here cos it can stare out at those distant lights, capture it fresh and then also be treated afterwards.. Mann is obviously a techboy nerd too.. he’s the fucking man. also i really want Farrel to deliver here - mann can see that side in him - hes a wicked flawed guy and raw instinctive actor i really like him.. i so hope he kills it in this movie.
I’m still chocking over Farrel being cast in this…I’m not a big fan, I find he over acts and is about as cool as a mexicans arse after a night on the chilli. BUT Mann is the Man so you never know…although pacino went totally hammy under Mann’s direction on Heat so I’m not holding out much hope
That’s true about pacino, but buy that point he was already becoming a kind of caricature of himself anyway… and doing nothing but his fast taking between shouting loud thing…
the person I think broke him out of it was Nolan with Insomnia…
Have faith in the mann, and if Farrel does a ‘tigerland’ and tones it down, then so much the better…
