‘Michael Mann Day’ on Solace in Cinema.
That’s right, today is officially Michael Mann day on Solace in Cinema, today we’ll take a look at the Mann himself and many of the great movies hes’ produced. One of the strongest directors working in hollywood today, has shown the world how to direct a gunfight, how to make Will Smith breakout of his ‘i’m funnyman Will Smith’ mode, and remake a movie or tv show you’ve already made once and make it ten times as good.
Michael Mann the last true hollywood Auteur (went to film school in London I should add) writer/producer/director of films like Heat, A film so cold hearted and realistic it would cut your hand off then ask you the time; Collateral, Starring Tom Cruise as a psychopath, not much of a stretch that one, and Jamie Foxx (pre- ‘Ray’) acting his ass off as a cab driver doing anything he can to survive.
Michael Mann, a director that made digital video beautiful, a director that made Will Smith circle in a plane for hours in order to get that perfect shot for ‘Ali’ during the ‘magic hour’ of sunrise, and a man that once won a ‘quick draw’ competition, after learning to shoot on the set of ‘heat’.
not to mention the fact he’s such nutter perfectionist all the street scenes in Collateral were computer generated, to get the exact level of bland LA he was after
