Silent Hill, and the Piles of Online Footage.
So the word on the street about Silent Hill… is…. well…. nothing. So far there's been no preview screenings, and it hasn't been shown to the press. The kind of movies that normally do this kind of thing are normally pieces of shit. Big Mommas House 2, and The Pink Panther are notable exampes of late that have pulled such tricks.
Silent Hill opens globally this friday (the 21st), and the only things that's letting me hold on to the glimmer of hope are; Christophe Gannes is directing it (director of the brilliant 'Brotherhood of the Wolf'), and the piles of online footage looks promising.
There's so much footage online you could probably construct a good portion of the film without ever having to enter the cinema. Here's a list of everything I've seen thats online so far….
The official trailer on apple.com here
The first 10 minutes of the film from mtv here (downloadable via rapidshare here)
A 15 minute making of here
exclusive clips on the official french site here

tv spot number two here
Rope of Silicon Clips: number 1, number 2, number 3, number 4, number 5, and number 6
There's also piles of still photogrpahy online, alot of which i've tried to collect in our flickr group here
if i've missed anything let me know in the comments section..

I’m exactly the same, I’m really concerned one moment and then for me the Roger Avary writing is what’s making me cling on for hope, the director is a close second for me. Then there’s the trailer, every time I see it my anticipation rises. It does look good…please let’s hope that they’ve done this one right and we can see a strong videogame adaptation.
Yeah .. i think with DawnOfTheDead remake, TheHillsHaveEyes, WolfCreek, TheDescent etc.. there seems to be a new breed of lean, brutal horror films that genuinely have some weight, depth, integrity, atmosphere and are actually scary.. and they are not all 70s influenced down and dirty movies - they often have at least some MTV edge to them - so they do actually make money. Its the studios having the confidence to get the dark horse talents to make them ( Snyder etc..)
Hopefully hollywood is sick of the lame PWS Anderson guys and wants the heavy guys back in on it.. a trend i am digging in the extreme. Now all we need is that Cameron/Scott Aliens film ..
Cast your mind back to when you could just about imagine that every hollywood horror film was almost guaranteed to be lightweight and tediously unscary .. im thinking ResidentEvil, HouseOnHauntedHill, TheFog type stuff .. obviously we are not out of the woods yet - but thank god somone has realised that it pays to actually invest some talent and respect into these films, and inparticular video game franchises: often beautifully crafted with atmosphere and bad vibes.. just asking to be made into great films.
Silent Hill actually looks like it isnt cynically made and has serious talent on board who want to make a scary, memorable movie….. i smell quality in every shot, clip and poster. I hope I’m right.
I couldnt egree more. This is the new breed of horror directors getting to do what they do best for once.
One of the things I love about these new movies (and from what I can make out Silent Hill) is that we actually see the badies full screen in nasty dark evil detail. Of course you’ve gotta have the suspense and the build up, the fleeting background flashes and things moving in the dark (think Alien), but when it comes to it these monsters are dark enough and so well done they can be a center piece within themselves and scare the shit out of you. I loved that about The Descent, Dog Soldiers even Signs.
It appears that Silent Hill isn’t out in Australia until August is this right!!??? Whats the deal with that?
A friend saw Silent Hill last night. HE said it was rubbish, a complete mess, unscary and people were laughing at the screen…. gutted.
No wonder they didnt show it to anyone…
damn.
I didn’t get a chance to see it yet, but the general concensous is that its pretty terrible… its a real shame…
it had a lot of potential…
