New Poster and 2nd trailer for ‘Inland Empire’
Ughhhh **shivers** I don't know what it is about this trailer but it gives me the creeping-willies. Some stuff David Lynch puts out, I can't even tell if it's supposed to be frightening, but his use of score and dirty video-taping of people sat in darkened rooms just creeps me out. The last time he really did it was this diner scene in Mullholland Drive, with the guy talking to his therapist about a dream he has involving the hobo that lives near the dumpsters. It gave me nightmares.
Lynch, as I've said before can be very much hit and miss, but there's no doubt the cinematic landscape would be more boring without him, and even if 'Inland Empire' isn't one of my most anticipated films of the year, i'll almost certainly be giving it a look when it comes out.
Here's that synopsis again:
Married actress Nikki (Laura Dern) is offered a role in a motion picture which is to be directed by Kingsley (Jeremy Irons), Nikki's co-star is called Devon (Justin Theroux). Nikki's role is Sue, Devon's is Billy, but they end up in bed with each other. They're calling each other the names of their characters in the movie. From here on, it is impossible to tell if Nikki is actually Nikki or Sue…
But right after reading that, I read this bit of trivia on imdb: "Though David Lynch knew the basic premise of the film, he began filming without a script. He wrote each scene just before shooting it". So who know's what the hell it's about, and judging from Lynch's recent advertising campaign, all bets are off.
