On the set of ‘Coraline’
I'm an avid reader of Neil Gaiman's blog, the guys a great writer so naturally his blog is a good read. It's also interesting to note how certain writers and film makers have taken to the world of blogging and really embraced it, Joe Carnahan has been the latest with his coverage of 'Smokin Aces' straight from the horses mouth as it were.
Gaiman has been covering the three films he currently has in production, Beowulf (which we talked about recently), Stardust (again), and Coraline. I'm excited about all of them but after Gaiman started posting pics from the set of 'Coraline' it's shot to the top of my list.
Coraline Jones is bored and unhappy in her new home with it's strange neighbors both upstairs and down. Then she discovers a secret door to a better version of her life, a world created by her Other Mother to delight and entertain her and fill her with delicious meals. There's just one "small thing" she'll need to do if she wants to stay in this magical place forever.
The story is being directed and was co-written by Henry Selick, the man behind 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and 'James and the Giant Peach' and of course he's the guy responsible for the animated sea-creatures in 'The Life Aquatic'.
The stills can be seen on Gaiman's blog here, or see bigger versions here:

And you can also see the poster for Coraline posted a while back, here
Shame Selick had to leave the Wes Anderson production of The Fantastic Mr Fox though.
It is a shame, but at least Wes Anderson isn’t short on projects… Darjeeling ltd is shooting at the moment
