Remake of ‘Shutter’ kicks off soon
Whenever I've been asked to recommend a horror film in the last couple of years, the first words past my lips have always been "check out the thai film 'Shutter'". For me 'Shutter' is right up there with the best asian horror films of the last decade, it's derivative in places but amps it all up to 11, and keeps the slow-creep-outs and jump-scares coming at a thick and fast rate. It's one of the few asian horrors I've watched more than once.
A young photographer and his girlfriend discover mysterious shadows in their photographs after a tragic accident. They soon learn that you can not escape your past.
So unsurprisingly there's a US remake in the works, and it's set to start filming this February. Happily the Thai directors of the original are busy with their new projects and so stepping in to their place will be Masayuki Ochiai, a Japanese director responsible for a decidedly average film called 'Kansen' AKA 'Infection'
If I was a betting man I would already put money on this sucking. 'The Ring', 'The Grudge', 'Pulse' … they've all been not just terrible, but god-awful, so why are studios still trying these remakes?

late post I know (been out if town), but I want to put in a good word for ‘The Ring’. Verbenski is a good director and the remake of ‘Ringu’ I found to be better paced and more atmospheric in story than the original. ‘The Ring 2′ was very bad but (being a fan of Japanese ghost stories, folk tales, etc.) I found that ‘The Rgin’ merged very well Japanese asthetics in a very American film. every other similar film following it has tried and failed to accomplish this. that’s just my take.
am I allowed to comment on this site without being one of the ‘friends’ mentioned in the about section? if I’m not I apologize for the intrusion and shall take my leave here. in anycase I’ll keep reading. thanks.

Solace was originally set-up just as a small project for myself and some friends, but is now a much bigger entity, and anyone can comment and have a say.
