‘The Darjeeling Limited’ has a full cast
Anderson’s films provoke a reaction in people. Me? I don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks about ‘The Life Aquatic’ or ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ or even ‘Bottle Rocket’. You can criticise his films until the cows come home but they will always be fantastically well made, entertaining movies that are an inspiration to many and guaranteed future classics. Anyone interested in contemporary film or comedy should dig his work. And whatever Wes is doing next is always worth checking out. Yeah, I’m obsessed.
Apart from his recent Amex advert (check it out here) and the stop motion version of the ‘The Fantastic Mr Fox’ that he's producing, next up is his fifth feature; ‘The Darjeeling Limited’. This time Wes is co-writing with a new team; Jason (Max Fischer) Schwartzman and his cousin Roman Coppola. It’ll be interesting to see what these guys bring to it. Neither has done anything similar of note (outside Jason’s fantastic acting and some solid drumming on the OC’s title song). Coppola also has some kind of cameo in it to go with his appearances in (get this shit…) ‘The Godfather Part 2’, ‘Apocalypse Now’ and ‘Star Wars: Episode 1’. Could I hate this guy any more? Probably not.
Anyway, Darjeeling is filming right now. The plot involves the three brothers taking a train ride through India in search of a rare tiger that is believed to be the reincarnated form of their recently deceased father. The movie also stars the new British actress Amara Karan, Anjelica Huston, Natalie Portman and Bill Murray. Tenenbaum’s was a surprise smash. Life Aquatic just broke even. I hope this one is another home run for thoughtful, funny cinema and I can’t wait.
