Brief ‘Clerks 2′ dvd review

Jason Mewes'Clerks II' opens with some heavy symbolism in the first scene as the central Quickstop store burns to the ground. Despite this, the funny sequel doesn’t deviate from the regular Kevin Smith formula. Clerks II is very much a comfortably slacker lo-fi comedy in the View Askew mould. Inspired pop culture arguments run alongside some occasionally grating sentimentality and gross-out style bawdy comedy.

This sequel is far more obscene than the original with bestiality and some occasionally embarrassing and strained dirty talking. The acting is typically patchy but it’s arguably worth watching purely for another tour de force performance from Jason Mewes as Jay. What we have is a decent Clerks swan song, made for all the right reasons and crammed with laugh out loud moments. The extras on the second DVD are extremely well put together but the film itself is not worthy of the 8 minute ovation it received in Cannes.

If you're UK based you can grab the dvd from play, but if you're stateside (or just have a multiregion dvd player) I can recommend Dvd Pacific
