‘The Condemned’ the new no-brains/no-budget WWF film
‘The Condemned’ is the new flick from ‘WWE Films’, starring none other than ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. It seems to be a remake of ‘Battle Royale’ but with wrestlers, It looks rubbish, but the reason I’m posting about it really is just because I like the ethos behind these WWE movies. WAIT… hear me out.
OK WWE Films is part of WWF (That’s wrestling, not Panda Bears, and no.. not wrestling Panda Bears), they’re not in it for the art, they’re in it for the money, pure and simple. They’re making these films for $20 million a piece using their stars that are already under contract. The films are low on the thinking, high on explosions, what they can’t afford, they work around (they used helicopter footage from RAMBO II in ‘The Marine’) and most of all they’re fun. They give the films limited releases but promote them heavily, and know exactly where to hit there target audience. Unlike most of Hollywood, they seem to actually know what they’re doing.
They’re grindhouse movies for the Warcraft generation. I like it.
I proffered it when they had The Rock as the star, and its worth looking up films like ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and ‘Walking Tall’ if you want something brainless and action packed, to pass an evening away.

[...] It’s weird but I get very mixed feelings watching it, John Rambo as a concept seems to be totally outdated, like this film doesn’t belong anymore. Also I was never a massive fan of the ‘jungle’ Rambo films, I was all about ‘First Blood’ though but this doesn’t seem to have anything in common with that. I thought these kind of films were only still being made by the WWF. [...]
