More ‘Watchmen’ casting rumours and near misses
Late last week CHUD broke some news in an interview with Zack Snyder (I love how people are supposed to be interviewing him about 300, but invariably end up talking about ‘Watchmen’) that Tom Cruise was interested in the role of Ozymandias ‘The Smartest man on Earth’ AKA Adrian Veidt, but is no longer in talks. PHEWWWWWW…
I don’t mind the cruiser but the guy is stone-cold crazy, plus they’d either have to cast a whole bunch of short actors as the other Watchmen, or be constantly engineering situations where he was either standing slightly up-hill of the other characters or on a step. Watchmen needs character actors, and guys with small egos… not the second coming in a pair of lifts.
In other casting rumours Snyder mentioned in an interview at Wondercon (currently going on) that Gerard Butler will have a part in Watchmen if he wants it:
“He may” play a part, Snyder said in an interview at WonderCon in San Francisco on March 3. Which one? “I don’t know yet, but he’s fun, so I’m sure we can figure something out for him.”
Now you’re talking, I actually think Butler would be killer as Rorschach (pictured), he’s the kind of character that’s grizzled about the past, pissed off at the future and would quite happily throw a man down a lift shaft without a second thought. Butler could pull that off. Also, he has the voice for it…. like wet gravel.

I think Cruise would be quite good in that role! A meglamaniac who thinks he’s some new self-appointed saviour of the masses. Wasn’t Adrian quite short too?
You’re right though. Small egos needed. Fact. Also, Rorsharch needs to be really ugly, with no lovable or handsome features. If they make him like a ginger Batman they’ll have failed.
Oh, and Dr Manhattan better not wear any pants.
“Rorsharch needs to be really ugly, with no lovable or handsome features”
So there is a future for Rupert Grint after all!
