‘El Orfanato’ (The Orphanage) is a spooky looking horror from spain directed by Jaun Antonio Bayona (who according to imdb has directed a couple of shorts and another film called ‘Spongeman’). The film is produced by Guillermo Del toro and i’d be interested to know how much influence he had over the production as the the films appears to be quite similar to ‘The Devils Backbone’ in feel and look.

Laura returns to the house where she was raised, and decides to transform it into an orphanage. Soon, her son, Simón, makes an invisible friend…

Children with masks made of sacking creep me out, I can say that for sure.

The film was completed on the 23rd of January but the release date (In Spain only at the moment) isn’t until the 19th of October, hopefully a distributor in the UK will pick it up and it’ll get shown much in the same way as something like ‘Them’ did recently
