Werewolf concept art from ‘Skinwalkers’
I was flicking through new book ‘The Winston effect: The art and history of Stan Winston Studio’ while I was in a bookshop yesterday and stumbled across some bits and pieces I hadn’t seen online yet from the new werewolf film ‘Skinwalkers’. Although I can’t say any of the trailers I’ve seen yet have got my blood flowing, and they’ve certainly cast one to many pretty people to play werewolves, it’s always interesting to see some behind the scenes on the monster-make-up (well.. I think so).
Stan Winston is the man behind some of the most famous special effects of all time, and star of many a Saturday afternoon ‘Magic behind the movies’ programme. Winston and his studio designed and built the ‘Predator’, created all the effects for all three Terminator movies, worked on practical effects in ‘Aliens’ and created the bloody monsters from ‘Monster Squad’ …. now that’s a resume and a half. Needless to say, I bought the book.
I really hope ‘Skinwalkers’ is more ‘American Werewolf’, and less ‘Underworld’…and i’m really hoping for at least one person get their throat ripped out in the first 15 minutes. Only time will tell if I’ll get my wish.
I was going to scan the images I mentioned, but I was too lazy and found them on a JasonBehr fansite instead (the smooth one in the lead role).

Thanks to Yvonne from jasonbehr.org for scanning the pages in the first place.
