Carnahan unveils some ‘White Jazz’ artwork

White JazzSo I wasn’t the biggest fan of Smokin’ Aces, and from reading his blog i’m not a massive fan of Carnahan himself…. he seems like kind of an asshole. All that being said, it’s a point i’ve harped on about a couple of times, I really really loved ‘Narc’, it cast the right people, it’s uncomplicated, gritty and just straight up cold-blooded. Oh and has one of the best openings of any film.. ever. Yeah that’s right.. I like it. Oh… and it’s what ‘The Departed’ should have been. ooooh bold claims.

So regardless of my feelings for Carnahan or his last film I still look forward to what he puts out next. I’ve been keeping an eye on his blog and recently he’s started to mention that the script for his Ellroy adaptation ‘White Jazz’ is finished and he’s very pleased with it, BUT it’s quite a departure from the book. This announcement was closely followed by some photoshop mock-ups of the film’s ‘look’, Carnahan stated the film will be shot in L.A and included a possible hint at casting..

You’d be amazed how little you have to do to return that block to its former, period luster.

Look close and check out the driver of that red sled.

Look vaguely familiar?

It’s difficult to tell from the above image, but from the bigger version over at Carnahan’s blog it looks a lot like George Clooney to me. ‘White Jazz’ is on my ‘keep your eye on it’ list.

  1. [...] Solace in Cinema have posted the artwork that Carnahan has released on his blog which is a photoshop version of the look he is planning for his film. As you can see, he’s even added an image of the movie’s lead actor George Clooney in the front of the driver’s seat. [...]
