More sweet ‘Sukiyaki Western’ action with the trailer.. and a glimpse of Tarantino
I wrote a post about the teaser trailer for Sukiyaki Western Django a while back when they were posted on the official japanese website. God knows when this new trailer was released but it totally passed me by. Anyway it’s here now, and the reasons why I feared for this flick have all come flooding back to me… Japanese actors speaking english. It’s awful, you can barely make-out what they’re saying and things that are important in acting (well.. speaking) like inflection are all messed up. It makes me cringe.
Obviously it’s not just Japnese people speaking a non-native language though. Recently I was watching ‘Pathfinder’ (which is really god awful.. but what can I tell you .. I dig vikings) with Clancy Brown playing ‘The leader of the dragon people’. Anyway he speaks in Norwegian all through the film, and my girlfriend who’s norwegian was cracking up everytime he spoke becuase … and I quote “It’s Norwegian but I can barely tell what he’s saying…he’s pronouncing it more like Danish” which… if you know anything about Scandinavia, is like calling your mum a dirty pirate whore.
I think what i’m trying to say is.. the film looks like a hell of a lot of fun, but i’d rather it was all in Japanese. I’m especially loving the “1…2…3..4″ clap-in. genius.
If you haven’t seen much Miike before you should check out (in no particular order); Audition, Dead or Alive Trilogy, Ichi the Killer, One Missed Call (Now remade for the U.S)…. and one of my Favourites ‘Fudoh: The New Generation’ (check out the trailer below)
