New ‘30 days of Night’ posters

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

30 days of night, new posterFollowing the same style as the posters that have already been released (a similar style to the books) there’s three new ‘character posters’. Everything about this film looks so stylised from the poster art to the look of the film, I can’t freaking wait to see it. I really love the books, so i’m trying not to overhype the film to myself incase i’m disapointed, but I have real faith in David Slade. Josh Hartnet may be the weak link in the chain, but with support from actors like Ben ‘Shark eyes’ Foster playing ‘The Stranger’ I think we might be alright….

Speaking of Ben Fosters character; I’ve read the books so understand the part he plays, but found this great description of his character over at the imdb message boards…

“He is the harbinger of the vampires. Well really a scout who was sent into the town because he can be out during the day. He is tantively known as a “bug-eater”, not a vampire but something akin to a ghoul. They find him snooping around town and trespassing so they arrest him. “

Check out the trailer here if you still haven’t seen it.

The posters are originally from shocktillyoudrop.com, but they seem to put massive watermarks all over them and ruin them, so you can check out the untainted versions here

Spy photos from the Watchmen set

Kid on set of ‘Watchmen’Don’t get too excited there’s no shots of any of the characters yet, just some possible sets and a couple of background players in costume. The little kid pictured is from the scene where Dr Manhattan meets JFK. The photos are minimal but after so many false starts in the past with ‘Watchmen’ i’m just glad it’s up and running. Fingers crossed Snyder brings it all to fruition, and who knows maybe Moore will even like this one? nahh probably not

Check out a bunch of other spy photos, including some possible pics for the shooting location of Adrian Veidt’s Antarctic retreat here at watchmencomicmovie.com

Trailer for Brad Anderson’s ‘Transsiberian’

Monday, September 10th, 2007

I’ve been talking up ‘Transsiberian’ for a long time, but the info about the film has been slim. Brad Anderson’s still not fully on the map, which is a shame as he makes really interesting films; ‘Happy Accidents’, ‘Session 9′, and ‘The Machinist’ have all been, if not perfect… interesting to watch. Here’s the plot synopsis for ‘Transsiberian’ although I think you’ll be able to gather most of it from the trailer:

“When an American couple (Woody Harrelson and Emily Mortimer) traveling from China to Moscow on the Trans-Siberian Railway meets an outwardly friendly couple (Eduardo Noriega and Kate Mara) traveling the same route, deception soon gives way to murder in The Machinist director Brad Anderson’s tense tale of international intrigue. Ben Kingsley and Thomas Kretschmann co-star as a pair of Russian police officers striving to solve the case and stop the rising body count”

The trailer for the trailer for Iron Man, & Indy 4 title confirmed?

Monday, September 10th, 2007

It was the VMA’s last night, and i’m guessing this played in the ad break, as 90% of the other news this morning is in someway connected with that vacuous awards night. It’s all stuff that was in the comicon trailer but it’s nice to finally see some crisp and clear stuff (ish) that wasn’t filmed on a camera phone.

So also at the VMA’s Shia LaBeouf ‘let slip’ (**roll eyes** .. please..) that the title for new Indy movie will be ‘INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL’, not the supposedly confirmed ‘City of the Gods’. Cool.. fine.. whatever.. just make the film good.

I’m sure the PR people at paramount don’t mean to be arseholes, but we’ve been fed so much dissinformation and bullshit about the indy movie even before it was properly in production that i’m tired of talking up speculation around it. I’m of course hoping it will be awesome… but people need to start straight talking or i’m gonna crack some skulls.

I think I need some sleep.

The Indy news was confirmed over at the official site, where there’s also a bunch of new video diaries.

Interesting actors.. yet forgettable looking film ‘Cleaner’

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

Ed Harris, yes. Sam Jackson, of course. Eva Mendes, passable. directed by Renny Harlin…. oh dear. Harlin gets points in my book for Die Hard 2, Deep blue sea (Tom Jane, Giant Sharks, Sam Jackson as shark snack.. awesome) but 9 of of 10 times just produces incredible dreck.

All in all it just looks a bit dull…now if we had some giant sharks in there, THEN we’d have a proper Harlin movie.

New John Rambo trailer?

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

Up until now we’re had some really strange promo material released for ‘John Rambo’, there was a bunch of stills (usual practice… fine) but then, what people now refer to as the first trailer was infact some kind of promo reel Stallones people had put together to show investors and got released to AICN. Now there’s this (above) which according to the dudes at ‘First Showing’ is the new trailer… hmm. weird. It starts out like a trailer and then seems to be two and a half minutes of Rambo shooting Burmese dudes in the face.. really i’m not exaggerating…and then some cruddy title card. really strange.

The teaser poster for P.T Anderson’s ‘There Will be Blood’

Friday, September 7th, 2007

There will be blood posterI’ve rewatched the trailer for ‘There Will be Blood’ more than is healthy, but i’m a total sucker for the dusty Terrance Malick vibe…

I’m gonna go watch ‘Badlands’ and curl up in the fetal position

Also some people at a special screening were shown 20 minutes of the film, a full description of the footage can be found here (2nd article down)

‘Diary of the Dead’ video diaries

Friday, September 7th, 2007

I had no idea these were being made… but there you are. The first one (below) is some shots from the set with people running around and Romero talking to camera. I gotta be honest I don’t have high hopes for ‘Diary’, I love Romero but the last good film he made was ‘Day of the Dead’ back in the mid 80’s. That of course, doesn’t stop me hoping it will be awesome.

In the same vein you should check out ‘The Zombie Diaries’ a really great little UK independent zombie film. Low budget, but uses the ‘Blair witch’ stylings of hand-held cameras to great effect. Check the trailer below:

‘Shoot ‘Em Up’ pieces of the original animatic

Friday, September 7th, 2007

shoot em up animaticI don’t remember where I first read about this, I might have heard it on a podcast… maybe… anyways, basically (he explains this at the beginning of the trailer… but still) the director Michael Davis had made some horrendous shit before ‘Shoot ‘Em Up’ and was having a hard time convincing the suits at New Line to let him direct the flick. So being the resourceful chap he obviously is he put together 15 minutes of action sequences from hand drawn storyboards, making one long animatic fight scene. It did the trick and he got the job, and now there’s pieces of the animatic up on yahoo (i’m guessing the full version will be on the eventual dvd release)

It’s interesting to see just to know the lengths people have to go to give hollywood a kick up the arse occasionally

check it out here

You can also read a couple of reviews; one here at twitch and a crazy-positive one here at firstshowing

*on a side note I don’t know who at yahoo thought it was a good idea to change from quicktime trailers to this crummy flash player they’re using, but they need a beating.
