New Watchmen poster accompanies the extended trailer.

I’ve re-read ‘Watchmen’ twice since it was announced the film was in production, and it’s one of the few properties that the more I see from it, the more relaxed I am that it’s in the right hands with that good-looking bastard Zack Snyder.

In between this new poster (originally from Yahoo movies) and the extended trailer that played during the scream awards, you can call me Captain Boner and the Boner Police. You heard me.

This post will not make me popular AKA The teaser trailer for the Friday the 13th Remake (updated)

**updated with a better copy, no the shitty youtube video**

So I saw this trailer at this year’s Frightfest, which quite honestly is never a good place to view things objectively as I was all hopped up on caffeine, and had been watching people get eviscerated on screen all day. When this played right before the godawful ‘Mirrors‘ I was all like “woah!”.. and then I was all “ohhhhh”… then I was “holy fuck!..MACHETE TIME!!!”.

Looking at it now i’m like “meh”. Which just goes to show you that ingesting 2 large cans of generic energy drink, and well over 1000ml of taurine, makes almost anything exciting to watch.

As i’ve stated before I really like the Nispel remake of ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, and this seems to be following in the same vein, so I will be giving it a look when it comes out, but aside from the pretty slick Jason-runs-at-camera shot right at the end… i’m as yet unimpressed…

Brad Pitt Nazi Smasher! …First cast shot from ‘Inglourious Basterds’

Well seen as this is my first official post back on the movie pony, I figure why not kick my blog in the cock with a picture of Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine in Tarantino’s new film ‘Inglourious Basterds’ (It may seem like my mum didn’t buy me a speak-n-spell for Christmas, but that’s genuinely how it’s spelled. Go figure.).

Is Pitt’s face all scarred up or is it just my eyes going funny?

So the shot’s from Empireonline, here’s their blurb around the photo:

This first look from the set shows Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine, leader of a group of Jewish -American soldiers, known as ‘The Basterds’ who are chosen specifically to spread fear among the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis.

I have a good feeling about this movie, but what can I tell you a great group of actors and a one line pitch that’s straight out of a 70’s warsploitation film. I’m in. I’m a Tarantino fanboy, I fully admit it and I don’t care at all.

On a similar ‘Revenge of the Jews’ theme is Edward Zwick’s ‘Defiance’ with Daniel Craig… It’ll be interesting to see how the two films compare… Tarantino has a tendency to be overly-referential, and Zwick rewrites history for his own narratives and makes films that are too worthy for their own good.

I wanna see some Nazi’s get scalped!

Slowly coming back to life…

Hi chaps, so Solace as you can see is slowly slowly coming to life. This is basically a test post really but also to let people know we’re coming back. So.. tell your friends!

We’ll be right back after these messages….

So Solace has been quiet for over a month now, and I guess I should probably explain why. The truth is there’s no one good reason just a lot of small ones that add up to something substantial. I’m trying to focus on my day job more and get that to a level where i’m happy with it, and solace gets in the way of that by absorbing way too much of my time. I also took a small break from writing to go on holiday (while good friend sizemore wrote some great posts) and when I got back I wasn’t keen to get back into the blog. I think when something starts to feel like a chore instead of something you do because you love it, you should stand back and reassess the situation.

So here’s what’s going on. Solace is going dark for the next couple of months. It’ll be back for definite in some form, but for now i’m going back underground to take stock.

If you read/monitor the site through RSS, keep us in the ‘check every now and then’ pile, or if you’d prefer you can drop me a blank email to this address and i’ll send out a bulk mail when the site comes back up. Or if you just want to abuse me or suggest a new path for solace you can get me through the same address.

Until then, keep the cinematic dream alive bitches.

God bless you Stephen Chow

Too Late The Hero

Too Late The Hero (crop)

So as the rest of the movie blogs sit down to talk about Michael Caine in the remake of Sleuth, Solace is posting about naked girls. Naked girls, the late, great Denholm Elliott and Michael Caine.

A month or so ago I found an unusual set of promo photos taken presumably on the set of Robert Aldrich’s movie Too Late The Hero. They’d been posted onto a Russian site with no real background info so I have no idea where these were originally published or how they came about. If memory serves they have very little to do with movie…

I’ve put the photos together here, but they feature around 50 breasts so don’t go opening them at work unless it’s your last day or something.

Maybe it was simply an attempt to put some distance between the movie and its grim tagline, WAR, It’s a dying business to something like PHWOAR, Carry on Caine.

It could just be how you marketed everything in 1970, but if anyone has any more background on these I’d love to know what the story was…
